2: Turn the speaker on

The speaker does not turn on.

Make sure the adapter is connected and the AC power cord is plugged into an AC power outlet.

It takes a long time to start up.

Below is the Startup procedure. COTODAMA Lyric Speaker will turn on by following the instructions below.

First, by pressing the speaker’s power button the screen will start to flicker signaling preparation for start-up. In about 30 seconds the logo “Starting Lyric Speaker…” will display. Then in another 30 seconds the message “Please setup the speaker network with Lyric Speaker’s app” will appear and go into standby mode for connection. After connection is achieved, the firmware update process may start. Depending on the connection speed, this may take around 15 minutes.

3: Connect your smartphone to Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is not detected.

Make sure the Wi-Fi router is turned on.

I do not know the password to the Wi-Fi.

・To find the Wi-Fi password, examine the label on your Wi-Fi router or try looking at documentation that came with the router or the Wireless LAN application form.

・Depending on the router the Wi-Fi password may appear as “Encryption Key”, ”KEY”, “WEP Key”, “Security Key”, “Pass Phrase”, “Network Key”, etc.

4: Connect your speaker to Wi-Fi

The speaker is not detecting the smartphone. (During initial set up)

There is a possibility that the speaker is not operating correctly or there may be an issue with the operation or setup of the Wi-Fi router. Below is a list of checkpoints.
・Make sure the speaker is turned on.
・Press the Wi-Fi settings button on the back of the speaker and reset.
・Reboot the speaker and Wi-Fi router and reset.
・Reboot the smartphone.
・Place the speaker closer to the Wi-Fi router.
・Check the Wi-Fi router security settings. There is a possibility that the privacy separator function is enabled. For details, please contact the manufacturer of the Wi-Fi router.

I want to connect to a new Wi-Fi network.

Press the Wi-Fi settings button found below the circular surface on the back of the speaker until the message “Please setup the speaker network with COTODAMA Lyric Speaker’s app” appears. Once the speaker goes into “waiting” mode, it is ready for Wi-Fi connection.

5: In case there is connection failure

The smartphone detected the speaker, but there is no Wi-Fi connection.

If the messages “Failed to connect to Wi-Fi network” or “Cannot connect to (network name)” appears and connection fails, please try either of the following procedures.
・Reset the speaker and Wi-Fi
Press the Wi-Fi settings button (3 seconds) found below the circular surface on back of the speaker to make it go into “waiting” mode and try setting up the Wi-Fi.

・Reboot the speaker
Press the power button (3 seconds) found on the front of the speaker to turn the power off. Then turn the speaker on by pressing the power button (3 seconds) again and try setting up the Wi-Fi.

・Connect with AirPlay
In case of iOS, the “COTODAMA Lyric Speaker Specific App” does not have to be used in order to achieve connection. From” home” go to “settings” → ”Wi-Fi”. Under the item “Setup new AirPlay speaker…” tap on “Lyric Speaker…” and go to “Next” in order to connect. For details, please refer to the user manual that comes with the speaker.

・Changing Wi-Fi frequency bands
COTODAMA Lyric Speaker works on Wi-Fi frequency bands of both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Depending on the environment, the frequency band that works best differs. In case connection is weak, try connecting to another frequency band.

※Even when the iOS displays “An error occurred while installing” and if “Connected to(name of Wi-Fi router)” appears on the speaker’s screen, there is a chance that the speaker is connected. Please check what message appears on the speaker.

In case this does not solve the issue, please contact customer support.

I cannot connect the speaker with the Wi-Fi network available in the office.

With Wi-Fi network in the office, there may be security settings that disable connection with a personal device. For details, please contact the network administrator.

6: Play music

How to use Spotify Connect?

You can use Spotify Connect to listen to music on the smartphone, tablet, and PC. To do so you need the spotify app on your device and to become a premium member.
How to use:

1: Connect your smartphone, tablet, or PC with the same Wi-Fi network via the COTODAMA Lyric Speaker app.
2: Open the Spotify app.
3: With a smartphone and tablet, click on “Devices Available” link at the bottom of the app page. Then on the next app page, select COTODAMA Lyric Speaker. Finally, play the song. On your PC, click on the speaker link icon at the bottom of the application. Then on the pop up menu, select Lyric Speaker. Finally, play the song.

How can I play music on other people’s smartphone devices?

In order to use a new smartphone device, make sure to connect it with the same Wi-Fi network as the speaker. New settings are not required.

The AirPlay button does not appear.

Verify that the smartphone and speaker are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
※AirPlay is an iOS devices’ function. It cannot be used on Android.

Music does not play even when connected or after connecting the speaker to a Wi-Fi network.

Music will not play if the speaker and smartphone are connected to different Wi-Fi networks. Please check the following.

・Verify that the Wi-Fi network names (SSID) that appear on both the speaker and smartphone are the same.
・In case they are different, either reconnect the smartphone to the same Wi-Fi network as the speaker or reset.

The music stops, pauses or cracks.

If the music stops or the lyrics do not display correctly, the following is possible: a weak Wi-Fi signal, interference, the distance between the speaker and Wi-Fi is too far, etc. Please check the following.

・Move the speaker closer to the Wi-Fi router.
・The connection may be weakened due to microwave ovens, Bluetooth and digital cordless devices. In this case, either separate these devices from both the speaker and Wi-Fi router or turn them off.
・If the connection does not work well with 5GHz, try 2.4GHz.

Lyrics are not in sync with the music.

There may be a discrepancy depending on the lyric distribution service or a compatibility issue between the application and music data. We do not support live versions and remixes.

The lyrics do not show up.

Lyric data of approximately 2 million songs are provided by SyncPower Corporation among which some are incompatible. Lyrics can be requested through the app. For details, read under the item “request”. In some cases, lyrics of famous songs are not available. ※ i.e. Personally sourced music, live version, remix version, etc.

7: Request a lyric

Can I request the lyrics of the song in the smartphone?

Please request the songs from the COTODAMA Lyric Speaker’s app while you are playing the song.

Can I request the lyrics of the song you are playing by streaming service app?

When you open the COTODAMA Lyric Speaker app, you will find the song that is playing in the streaming service app. Please request the song from COTODAMA Lyric Speaker app.

Other Information / Warranty

Please tell me about software updates.

Software updates occur automatically when the speaker is turned on. It can take approximately 15 minutes depending on Wi-Fi connection speed. While updating, do not turn the speaker off.

Where can I find the serial number?

It can be found on the bottom, right corner of the speaker.

What warranty support am I eligible for?

COTODAMA Inc.("COTODAMA") warrants COTODAMA Lyric Speaker("Product") against defects as follows: For a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase, if the Product is determined to be defective, COTODAMA will repair or replace the Product. Please see the Warranty in details.
